Back from Philly

I just got back from Philadelphia, PA. I went to the 2008 ARNOVA Conference. I presented my first academic paper. You can see a copy over on the nonprofit management side of this site. Anyhow it was really a busy few days. I stayed at a great little Bed and Breakfast. Actually, it was a self-serve breakfast as I had a kitchennette in my room. It was actually a nice way to go as opposed to having to be at breakfast during the time it was served. Anyhow Antique Row Bed and Breakfast was lovely. It was about a 20 minute walk from the B&B to the conference hotel. It was cold in Philly. It snowed on Friday morning and, while I had managed to have warm close, including hat and gloves, I wasn't prepared for the snow as it hit my face. Wow. I'm glad I don't live in a blizzard prone part of the country.

Anyhow, I really didn't get to see much of the city. However, on Thursday night I did go to the Walnut Street Theatre. It is America's oldest theatre. The fun part was looking at all the photos from 1809 to the present. At some point, the Barrymore family was involved in the theatre. Drew Barrymore's family tree back 5 or 6 generations is on the wall. Anyhow, I watched Hairspray. I have seen the movie version several times, but loved this production. The colorful stage and costumes just brightened the whole stage.

The conference itself was really good. I walked away with more ideas about potential research projects. It is scary. I am so surrounded by research opportunities that it is absolutely amazing. My paper went OK. In the scheme of things, the quality of my paper reflects where I'm at with my thinking and that is the very early stages. However, I got incredible feedback from the audience. It was really good. I also have a lot of papers that I have to read that will be great sources for ideas. So, all in all, a good few days in Philladelphia.

I had a dream to start my own commerce, nevertheless I did not have got enough amount of cash to do it. Thank God my mate proposed to use the mortgage loans. Therefore I received the college loan and made real my desire.
