Who is Morgan Le Fay?

So last week as Dragon's Cauldron began planning ritual, my thoughts were focused on the thinning veil between the worlds. At our last planning meeting for Equinox, there had been some discussion about the Underworld, but we put that discussion off till last week. As we sat and ate at Sitar and planned our Samhain ritual. It struck me that we should visit Avalon. I mentioned this to the group and it felt right. As we were thinking about who to call for the deity there was a growing discussion about inviting Morgan Le Fay and maybe even Arthur himself.

Well, what can I say, but this has started me down a path of talking with Morgan Le Fay this week. Praying to her, thinking about her, reading about her. She's calling me. I have no clue if this is for a season or a lifetime of work.

Her reputation is as the protaganist in King Arthur's story. However, it seems that if you read early works about her, she is less protaganistic than the popular media would have you believe. Nonetheless she is powerful. I'm experiencing her as the High Priestess of Avalon. The place where not only we go to rest between lifetimes (the Isle of the Apples), but where we are taught to be priests and priestesses. The place where witches go to learn mysticism and shamanism. The place where magic is daily practice and a way of life. She is willing to teach all who call her, but it is quite clear that it is not an easy road to be a witch.

As I think about some of the historical reading about her, it seems that she suffered the fate of so many pagan Gods and Goddesses as Christianity emerged. She was very much of Avalon, very much of the world of the faeries. She was the embodiment of the great Goddess. It is no wonder that when Guinivere and Christianity began to appear in the "court" that she began being portrayed as "evil." The battle between the old ways and the so-called new ways continues today.

Nonetheless, she is what she is, a powerful Goddess and Priestess. Some of the legends have said that Arthur is still resting in Avalon, having been escorted there by four priestesses (including Morgan Le Fay). He is to arise when a new King is needed for the land. It is appropriate, I believe to call on the Priestess of Avalon and the new King. We live in a time where Justice really is blind right now. It is not only blind, but it feels as if Justice downright doesn't exist right now. What better time to call on those who can help shape the new world that I want to be a part of.

Fabulous Day Yesterday

Well, yesterday was a big day. At work we sponsored three Project Homeless Connects. It was quite amazing. The link to the TUW website shows all the media coverage, but my favorite is the photo gallery from the News and Observer.
